Spaceship Troopers

No I am not making this up — headline in a USA Today article, “Pentagon envisions spaceship troopers.” Of course the DOD has been ramping up for space warfare (dominance is their term of choice) for years. However, given the current financial situation perhaps the money would be better spent tilting at windmills.

Counting the Un-countable

We in docs-land are often ask how many homeless are there? The Census Bureau does not directly count these folks; they use  a category of “group quarters” to nail down a number. There are numerous studies and estimates in Census land and they did attempt to make a count in 1990 but that proved ineffective.
